Under the DVRP, the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica is undertaking an expansion of the nursery capacities of the Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division in order to provide sufficient planting material for intensive forest reforestation/agroforestry/vegetative land stabilization programs.   To improve the capacity for the propagation and evaluation of planting stock, for forestry uses, key nursery facilities need to be improved and/or rehabilitated. Improvements include rehabilitation of existing support infrastructure including buildings, planting sheds, irrigation, storage sheds and related infrastructure.

To this end, the Project Coordination Unit (PCU) prepared the Terms of Reference for contracting a Design and Supervision Consultant to advance implementation under this activity. The assessment conducted by the Consultant in collaboration with the Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division and the PCU completed an inspection of the three (3) potential sites; namely, Roseau (Botanic Gardens), Pont Casse and G'leau Gommier.  The PCU is in receipt of the preliminary detailed designs and bill of quantities for the proposed upgrades to the nurseries.  The next step will involve prioritization of key nurseries based on budget allocation.  The PCU would like to commend the Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division for being a true partner in this sub-project.
